Follow-up correspondence for the long dream example "House of Dreams":
Below is the client's response to Bonnie's Dream Analysis/Interpretation email. The client's comments follow Bonnie's original response.
Bonnie: It seems as if part of you is holding back on starting a doggie daycare for fear you will have to be pushy and you would like to avoid that part of you.
Client: yes. I would have to be assertive and tell family and community members what I want to do.
Bonnie: The first room seems to be the part of you that fixes things. I am not sure what part that plays except you haven’t been there in a long while.
Client: That is possible. Everything in our house needs fixing and i usually try to do that. My office (which I was cleaning that day) needs to be rearranged... I used to be good at that but just don't have the time or ambition to do it. I feel guilty about not doing stuff but I don't want to take the time to work on the house.
Bonnie: The room with the car in it may be a time when you have gone off the road in the past and gotten stuck or disappeared as a result.
Client: I did experience a major failure in a previous business venture and that has really stopped me from trying anything else. My husband & I are still trying to pay off the results of that loss, since we put a lot of the expenses on credit card. I'm not making enough money by myself to pay the debt and feel I don't have the right to try something else. What if I'm wrong? What if I screw up again? What if I don't like it?
Bonnie: Right after that you go to a room where you are holding onto old stuff that is getting in the way of your dreams. – things you need to let go of. I wonder if it has something to do with all the time you spend in cooking or in the kitchen?
Client: That's possible. It seems daily routine is very important to other family members, so in an effort to make them feel more comfortable, I have tried to stick to a certain routine. The fixed times for certain daily activities don't leave much time to "start" anything. In between those times I have to do bookkeeping tasks ... which I don't enjoy at all.. but it's an opportunity to make money at home ... what more could I ask? (except more money).
Bonnie: The perfect room may the successful part of you. It is pure (white). But some part of you wants to give it up because you feel guilty ? devoting time or space to it.
Client: Yeah, guilty. It takes money to start a business... I don't have it, I would have to borrow it, more debt. My husband is freaking out about what we owe already. I feel guilty for even THINKING about it. I wish I would stop thinking "NEW BUSINESS" "NEW BUSINESS" all the time! I'm such a hustler (if that's the right word) but never successful. PS. This room has a computer in it. In my dream I was thinking of working on the computer and watching the dogs through the window! Wow! I never thought of that in my waking moments!
Bonnie: I think you brought your
mother & sister in initially for safety but you were afraid of what you
might find and what they would discover about you there.
Now you are trying to go outside yourself (outside your comfort zone) and you are feeling vulnerable (like a child) It is scary to leave your comfort zone and part of you doesn’t even want to hear about it.
Client: Exactly.
BUT the only way out is through and when you get to other side you find a great place. This seems very spiritual. The river is the spirit. Dog is God spelled backwards. I think He is supportive of you living your life to the fullest.
Client: Reading that brings tears to my eyes so there must be a connection there. I always think (and ask God) if I could be an animal caretaker when I get to Heaven. Sometimes I think maybe He is preparing me for that... which sounds a little crazy.
2nd Follow-up Response from Bonnie:
I am pretty sure that thinking about a new business should not evoke guilt. You may still be able do your bookkeeping if you start a new dog business. Maybe you can start with a litter of puppies right where you are. What about finding a space in the house/property you already own? That may motivate you to work on the house. I you already know in your spirit & in your heart that "in His time, God will send a dog or two and - you will know."
