Two Sample Dream Interpretations

Below is an example of a dream and its interpretation by Bonnie. This dream is unusually short. There is not a lot of symbolism in it but it gives an idea of the process of interpretation as well as the sort of information that is used to interpret a dream.

FIRST SAMPLE DREAM INTERPRETATION

Age: 55
Sex: Female
Marital Status: Married
Spiritual Beliefs: Christian. Active in the faith

"List the three most important things on your mind currently":
  1. Work- It has been a very stressful year and I am starting a new job.
  2. Vacation- I was on vacation.
  3. Selling the house.
"What did you do on the day of the dream?":

I was on vacation with my husband and my sister, and her husband. I spent a lot of time by the pool, sunning myself. I went snorkeling. I took a nap. I watched a little TV but nothing of significance. I ate well. We watched the evening show.

"Describe your dream with as much detail as you can remember":

I am at a going-away party for someone at work. Everyone seems to be having a good time. People that I used to work for are also there. One of them is Sara. In the dream, she is very ill. She possibly has advanced AIDS. She is thin and weak and cannot walk by herself. When everyone is leaving, there is no one left to help her but me. I don’t think I have the strength but still I lift her and carry her out.

"Please write one or two word descriptions of the personalities of all the people in your dream":

I can’t remember who else was at the party except Sara. The dream focused on us. She is a nun and very spiritual.

"How would you title your dream?" “Wasting Away”

"The nun in this dream is your spiritual side. Possibly due to other concerns in your life, including stress at work, you may have neglected the spiritual part of yourself and now that part has become sickly. Only the you can help yourself. You are stronger than you think and this can help carry you out of one job and into another."
